A smile was planted softly on your face as you walked down the busy streets to Time Square, New York City. This wasn't your final destination but just a stop.
At this time of year, you couldn't help but do this. People were rushing around for last-minute gifts at Toys-R-Us and couples kissing. The stores were all lit and decorated for one of the biggest holidays of the year.
The city that never sleeps was always more alive and kicking this time of year. Bells of the Salvation Army rung high into the air, different carols were being played at each street corner and children squealed in excitement as they looked into the windows of toy stores.
You passed Times Square without a passing glance. In the corner of your eye, you saw the ball that would be dropped in less than a week to ring in the new year. Smiling sadly, you shoved your cold hands into your warm coat pockets and buried your face into your scarf.
Crows dissipated and quickly regained as you moved from the scene of bustling Times Square to Rockefeller Center, many people taking pictures in front of and of the tree now lighting up.
Wringing your way to the front, you were able to see all the people ice skating below you. Above you, you could faintly hear the flapping noises of the flags as they breezed in the air.
Couples skated hand-in-hand, a familiar pang of pain hitting your heart. A keen eye rested on all those below, as if he were to actually be there, waiting for you to come back to him.
No, there was a considerable amount of doubt that your biggest crush, Alfred were anywhere near you right now. Alfred was your best friend in high school but moved out to the city in freshman year.
Recently, you've been living with your friend in the city but she went to her family in North Carolina for Christmas, leaving you alone in her apartment. If only Santa could wrap Al up and stick him under the tree.
Sighing, you rested your chin on your hand. Snowflakes were starting to fall in the cold, night sky. Your body was slowly getting cold and suddenly, you couldn't stand being outside.
The people around you began to suffocate you and your head was spinning. In a few seconds, you were hurriedly jostling through the wave of bodies, trying to get away before you passed out.
Someone didn't move and grabbed you instead, holding you close to them. In your haze, you didn't notice that they were calling your name repentantly. Your eyes slowly went up to see the person's face.
"A...Alfred...?" You whispered, seeing a small smile work its way onto his face.
"You certainly can make an impression, can't you __________...?" His voice was the same as it was back then. He helped you stand, still holding your body in a hug. "I missed you..."
"A-Al..." You finally strained, clutching tightly onto him, the only reality you could see for the minute. "A-Al...is that...?"
"The one and only." He beamed, kissing your forehead softly. "Why don't we get some cocoa and come back to my place. You're frozen!"
You nodded, smiling in his arms. "Y-Yeah Al...that sounds nice."
While you walked down the streets, snow starting to sheet on the ground, he continually buzzed on about how his life has been going since leaving in freshman year.
Once he bought you hot cocoa, he started walking you back to his apartment. His hand slowly gripped onto yours, a smile on his face,"Now we can keep both our hands warm."
Blushing, you nodded. "Yeah..."
Moving closer, you rested your head on his shoulder and sighed. He chuckled softly, and brushed the snow accumulating on your (h/c) hair. He led you into a building, going over to the elevator and getting it to come down.
His hand refused to leave yours as he stepped on and pressed the button to go up. You were rather surprised how nice his complex was. Not that he wouldn't be living in a nice place. He's just a bit of a...mess.
Walking in, you broke free from Alfred's grip just to look out the window. The lights were shimmering all over the city, live with Christmas spirit. His lights went on, revealing his own little Christmas paradise.
There was a tree at the corner, lit up from top to bottom. Sure it was only about 4 feet tall but it was beautiful. Lights were strung up around the house and paper snowflakes fell from the ceiling. If the tree was 2x taller and fake snow was around the house, you would've believed Buddy the Elf lived there.
Alfred couldn't help but smile at your amazed expression and came over, taking your cocoa and placing it beside his before taking your winter wear off of you and hanging it on the coat rack.
"Thanks Al." You said sincerely, sitting down on the couch and grabbing your cocoa.
He came over, his coat off and a blanket around his body. Sitting down beside you, he pulled you into his arms, covering you with the blanket as he turned on a Christmas special and took his cocoa.
Both of you spent hours awake, just talking and goofing around. He assured that you could stay the night since no one deserves to be alone for Christmas. The snow was falling peacefully outside, the noise of the city ebbing away in the later hours which was unheard of.
Alfred fell asleep before you did, his head resting on yours. Giggling, you removed his glasses and kissed his cheek before allowing yourself to nod off as well.
Both of you woke up around the same time, fumbling over each other as you awoke. His arms eventually wrapped around you, holding you in place. "Stop squirming..."
"Al...I need to get u-"
Before you could finish, Alfred laid a tired kiss on your lips. He pulled away, now awake and wide-eyed. "_-_________! I'm so sorry! I didn't mean-"
Your lips cut him off, a more passionate kiss than his was. It lasted a moment but by the time you had broken away, you were breathing heavily. "I...I love you Alfred..."
He smiled, pulling you onto his chest. "I love you too __________..."
A few extra hours passed by with you two sleeping within each others arms before you actually decided on moving. You made him breakfast and slowly awoke him to pancakes. He seemed grateful and immediately started eating.
Soon after that, you watched the snow fall outside, cuddling together in each other's arms. Alfred fell asleep once more, a small smile on his face. Smiling yourself, you kissed his lips and started cuddling with him.
"Merry Christmas Al..."
